The Opportunity We are looking for a Geoscientist role to apply technical knowledge and skills to projects undertaking a range of geoscientific tasks while developing generalist exploration competencies.
The Geoscientist is expected to contribute to total team output through completion of assigned tasks. The role interacts with geologists, technical services representatives, consultants, and administrative staff as needed by the team to exchange information/ideas and deliver assigned tasks, and to acquire a variety of new competencies within the development program.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity for an early career geoscientist to exercise and implement their knowledge in mineral exploration in a range of commodities. Reporting to the Senior Project Geoscientist, you will be:
Providing geological modelling, remote sensing and general geological GIS support to senior field and office based geologists working on a variety of projects dominantly from Europe, Eurasia and Africa Compiling and maintaining of regional datasets particularly mineral occurrences and geological mapping for area selection and targeting with direct geological input into the area selection process Organising, managing and preparing data in managed systems in close collaboration with the data management team Providing regional support in the quality control of large geochemical datasets and analytical services Contributing to geologic presentations on potential projects Providing support to project teams with modelling, data management and integration and general geological GIS systems. Ensuring that exploration data and documents are properly managed throughout the discovery pipeline and stored in an accessible and secure infrastructure
What you will need for this role
Tertiary degree in geology or related field (with honours) Minimum 2 years relevant experience or graduate Demonstrated interest in a dominantly office based role but with a willingness to travel to remote site locations as required Understanding of and commitment to health, safety and environmental sustainability practices within the workplace Problem solving skills applied to technical concepts and problems Interpersonal skills to work productively within a team based environment and communicate effectively within a cross cultural environment
It will also be beneficial if you have: A good understanding of mineral exploration techniques; geochemical sampling, mapping, geophysics and remote sensing A good working knowledge geological software packages in particular trained in ArcGIS and proven 3D geological modelling skills Leapfrog or equivalent Ability to understand written Russian or at least some basic knowledge of the Cyrillic alphabet would be beneficial
